Grow your own scheme

Our community grow your own scheme includes; 28 raised planters, a small orchard consisting of 2 apple trees, two pear trees and 2 cherry trees, planted borders, a wildlife banking area, a poly tunnel, composting bins, water butts and a timber building which will be used primarily as the projects onsite office space and for activities such as; potential training workshops, open days and events. Currently (July 2012) all 28 raised planter have been allocated, on a first come first served basis and are completely free of charge, to individuals and a diverse range of local organisations. Among those allocated a planter include; local people, local schools, and local organisations such as; MIND in Furness (mental health charity), CADAS (drug and alcohol awareness support group) Drop Zone Youth Project,  and Furness Parents and Carers Disability Forum.


The aims of the scheme are to help:

Increase the availability of fresh food
Develop basic local food production
Improve access to open green space
Encourage wildlife friendly gardening
Provide potential opportunities for horticulture training
Increase social opportunities involving people in their local community
Improve both physical and mental health and well being

Allocation of raised planters:

Although all the raised planters are allocated at the moment you can contact us, using the details below, if you would like to express your interest in the potential use of a raised planter and we would then let you know when one becomes available for use.
