What skills and abilities are required?

Experience is preferred but not essential however; reliability, the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team are crucial to the successful running of our project.

1. Gardener/maintenance man: responsible for ensuring the garden and its facilities are kept well maintained, tidy and safe to use.

We are looking for local people, interested in gardening, growing, wildlife, and general maintenance activities who would be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of our garden and its facilities.   Experience preferred but not essential however; reliability and the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team are crucial to the successful running of our project.

Responsibilities to include:

General gardening tasks - pruning, hedge trimming, weeding, lawn care etc.
Ensuring facilities within the the garden are well maintained.
Keeping the area clean and tidy

2. Fundraiser:

To play a key role in the development and implementation of Marsh Street Arches and Garden CICs fundraising activities with the aim of secure funding for programmed work and organisational core costs. Experience in this field would be beneficial plus good communication and organisational skills and the enthusiasm to encourage and secure support for our organisation. Responsibilities to include;
Developing new fund raising ideas and activities.
Identifying new sources of funding and donations.
Writing proposals to potential organisations who could offer support, including grant applications.
Developing and maintaining monitoring and reporting procedures and obligations.

3. Coordinator:

To organise the projects overall activities in cooperation with and under the direction of the management committee, aiming at the smooth running and sustainability of the project. The Project Coordinator will report to the CIC management committee, however some work may require liaising with other individual members of the CIC. Responsibilities to include:

Coordinate general activities, resources, and information
Acting as a point of contact
Identifying and/or organising activities that will generate revenue for the garden
Building upon the projects active network of local organisations and partners and developing new and effective working partnerships.
Promoting the garden and its activities to the wider community

Additional useful information

Although we do provide protective clothing such as gloves, goggles and face masks we require all of our garden volunteers to wear suitable clothing and footwear such as sturdy shoes or boots.
